Jitu Patwari Flags Major Lapses in Mid-Day Meal Scheme During Bhopal Press Briefing
Congress leader Jitu Patwari, speaking at a press conference in Bhopal, raised serious concerns over the Mid-Day Meal Scheme, alleging that despite a fivefold rise in its budget, children are not receiving adequate nutrition. He highlighted gaps in implementation and called for accountability and stronger monitoring.
He asserted that the discrepancy between financial outlay and on-ground delivery highlights what he described as systemic inefficiencies and possible misuse of government resources. According to Patwari, the intended beneficiaries—children dependent on school meals for essential nutrition—are not receiving adequate support, raising concerns about monitoring mechanisms and administrative accountability within the scheme.
Patwari urged authorities to conduct a thorough audit of the programme’s operations, emphasising that safeguarding children’s welfare should remain the government’s foremost priority. He stated that continued gaps in execution not only undermine public trust but also jeopardise the health and development of students across the state.
His remarks have intensified the public conversation around transparency and oversight in welfare programmes, particularly those directly affecting children. As demands grow for clearer answers and stronger safeguards, the issue places renewed pressure on administrators to ensure that increased public expenditure results in tangible benefits for young beneficiaries.
